Challenges: We had very particular budget, soil, sun exposure and water requirements. We were able to locate a steep, rocky site in Lake County which now produces award winning wines.

We searched in Santa Fe, Sonoma and finally in the Santa Ynez Valley where she settled on a property with great views and 45 minutes drive to Santa Barbara. My Life

Denis Sutro

Where I live and what I do reflect value-driven decisions. My wife and I came to Calistoga from San Francisco in 1992 to raise our younger children. My decisions to begin real estate and wine-related businesses were driven by my passion to pursue work that intimately involves land, buildings or architecture.

My Family

I am blessed with 4 children and 2 grandchildren all of whom, while they no longer live at the farm, are close by and happily weave into our lives regularly.

My Home

I live and work on Palisades Vineyard, in Calistoga, which was homesteaded in 1902. We are only the third owner and we have diligently maintained its historic and innate beauty.

I remain ever grateful for the opportunity to shepherd Palisades Vineyard from which critically distinguished Carver Sutro Petite Sirah has been produced since 1992.

My Interests

I am a wood turner who raises dogs and loves to cook. I have a barn full of tools which I use every day. I collect Native American basketry and black and white photography. I love to travel with my wife Anne, especially to big, cultural cities.
